Let's Fight Against Child Abuse

Child abuse is any action by another person that causes significant harm to a child, be it physically, sexually or emotionally. It can also  be be due to lack of love, care and attention. We know that neglect, can be just as damaging to a child as physical abuse. Child abuse often happens over a period of time, rather than being a one-off event.

India has the world’s largest number of child sexual abuse cases. According to a report, one girl in every five and one boy in every 10 face is sexually abused globally. Haunting, right? Yes, that's true, this is the dirty side of our society.

We often hear the cases that a child is sexually abused by other members of the family. These cases have come up in recent days and is increasing day by day.

Earlier we use to hear cases more of public domain such as child labour, prostitution, child marriage, etc. Intra-family abuse or abuse that takes place in institutions such as schools or government homes has received minimal attention. This may be due to the structure of family in India and the role children have in this structure.

If a child is sexually abused by a family member, then parents do not let this issue come out the family abd tell the child to just stay away from them. This is wrong, just think about that small child what he/she must be going through. These henious crimes kill an innoscent child from inside.

Many preventive measures are taken to reduce child abuse like, child sexual assault prevention classes. These prevention programs aim to reduce the risk of child abuse by changing the child's behaviour. This is done by educating children on physical abuse and sexual abuse as well as how to avoid risky situations.

Talk to your kids about the ‘bad touch’. Don’t keep quiet when you see someone sexualizing or abusing kids – be it on your street or on social media. Donate and help those NGOs that are working to prevent child abuse. Fight for stronger laws against CSA. Our kids deserve better. Let’s raise children that don’t need to recover from their childhoods.
