India’s falling education system

Education is the stepping stone of a country’s economic development. A country that fails to provide its citizens the right to education lags behind in every way. The education system in India suffers from some serious loopholes. We give preference to good marks over being knowledgeable. We do not encourage thinking out of the box, something different. Our studies are restricted to prescribed textbook, guide books, and the same outdated syllabus and also lack in practical knowledge.

Half the country does not even have access to proper education, and only a small fraction of people are able to complete their education. There is lack of quality in the primary education for the poor. The condition of government schools are miserable and fee of private institution is so high that the weaker sections of society could not afford it. There are only limited seats in Universities. Additional extreme pressure due to limited seats resulting in very intense competition between students.

Extreme pressure from parents and society to get into the "right schools" and "right universities", so that they could get good job, which means success in life, is making a student’s life harder and pushing them towards their downfall.

Our education system rarely rewards to those who deserves highest academic accolades. New and creative thinking should be encouraged. Our testing and marking systems need to be built, to recognize original contributions, in form of creativity, problem solving, valuable original research and innovation. If we could do this successfully our education system could turn many lives on right tracks.

We also live in a country where people see education as the means of climbing the social and economic ladder and become successful in life. If the education system of our country is failing – then it is certainly not due to lack of demand for good education. Education system in India is failing because of the systemic faults that do not let our demand for good education translate into a great marketplace with excellent education services. It is rightly said- "Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world."
